The Arab-German Family Business Summit 2009 “Family Businesses & the Economic Crisis” took place from 30 October until 1 November 2009 at the exclusive Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain Hotel & Spa in Manama. The International Institute for Family Enterprises (IIFE) invited family businesses from the Arab world and Germany, as well as experts in science and practice to utilize this forum as a dynamic opportunity for intercultural and entrepreneurial exchange.
In workshops and conversation rounds, international academics from universities such as Harvard Business School, Yale University, Princeton University, and Witten/Herdecke University, along with more than 200 representatives of renowned family enterprises discussed and developed new strategies and approaches to partnership. The summit specifically addressed the challenges that confront family businesses in these times of profound structural change of the global economy. Moreover, the summit provided participants with the opportunity to engage in personal conversation with one another, and facilitate the establishment of valuable contacts.
Additionally, an extensive cultural program had been arranged, which provided a fascinating and very personal look into the Kingdom of Bahrain. Summit participants and accompanying persons visited the ancient mosque of Al-Khamis, the modern Bahrain International Circuit (Formula 1 racing circuit), and the fortress and archeological excavation of the Bahrain Fort.
